End of Event details: On behalf of our shelter I personally raised funds to provide spay/neuter surgeries to deserving individuals. My goal was to assist seniors, disabled, military, veterans or those that have been adopted by a stray. I have rewarded three at the current moment but enough funds were raised to provide 16 spay surgeries. ( Neuters are less). The process consists of an interview with me with a basic form, the animal must be current on vaccs. They three that I had rewarded were not current on vaccs and had to schedule an appointment to get vaccs (mandatory booster and rabies but suggested bordatella) and show the invoice and certificate. They then had to purchase a collar if they did not own one and attatch the rabies tag to it. At that point I needed to see the animal first hand to make sure that they did not appear emaciated or had skin conditions that were not being addressed. The recipients were thrilled and very thankful. I did go on the local tv station and did a segment. The host sponsored a surgery and asked me to co host this coming Monday. I shed light on the numbers and euthanisia. I made front page on two local papers and hope that it helped. I did this all by myself and next year I hope to have a team and we could issue dozens of surgeries.

Description: Feral Cat Coalition and SNAP are fixin' to fix a whole lotta cats! The Feral Cat Fixathon is a huge clinic, a joint effort between the Feral Cat Coalition, SNAP, and Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital that fixes hundreds of feral cats in one day.

The Fixathon is a miracle for feral and stray cats: Fixed cats fight less, which means less stress and less injuries. Fixed cats are less of a nuisance to humans, and are less likely to end up in shelters or worse.
And of course, fixed cats don't breed!

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) is the most effective, and most humane, method of reducing the number of feral cats roaming our neighborhoods. No late-night howling, smelly male urine or unwanted kittens. Everybody wins!

PLEASE DO NOT BRING FERAL CATS TO THE FIXATHON UNLESS YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT! THANK YOU.

You can stay for a few hours or help all day if you want. No experience needed!

Thanks to fundraising, local businesses, and individual sponsors we were able to completely pay for our portion of the event without using funds from our General Funds. We were able to have our County Government proclaim February as Spay / Neuter month and credited the HSSC for their efforts. We were also able to work with the local Animal Control, establishing for the first time a friendly partnership, whereas before our organizations were more of an adversarial nature. End of Event details: On February 8, 2009, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley Veterinary Clinic opened on a Sunday for our Spay Day. Eleven Colorado State University veterinary students, 11 volunteers and two veterinarians donated their time to make our Spay Day happen. As a result, we were able to offer surgeries at $15 each, reaching out to low-income families in our community. Thirty-seven clients brought 52 cats to be fixed and many cats received vaccinations at a reduced rate too. 43 of the cats (82.6 %) received an FVRCP vaccination and 44 of the cats (84.6%) received a Rabies vaccination. This represents the highest percentage of vaccinations we have ever provided at a cat spay/neuter event! We also neutered 2 cats, spayed one cat and spayed 2 dogs as part of Spay Day - but on days in February that were more convenient for the client per special arrangement through our veterinary clinic. A special story: Every cat that was spayed and neutered at Spay Day 2009 will lead a much healthier life. But for one cat in particular, Spay Day was truly a life-saver. When Tigger?s guardians dropped her off at the veterinary clinic to be spayed that morning, they told us all about the scar circling her hairless neck. She had been to the veterinarian and was on oral antibiotics for a severe reaction to her collar. While Dr. Bob Irmiger was spaying Tigger, he decided to investigate the scar for himself. He discovered a tiny, clear rubber band was wrapped deeply around her neck! Dr. Irmiger removed the rubber band and Tigger received a very strong antibiotic injection in the wound. Tigger was not even one year old. Most likely the rubber band had been there since she was a kitten and as she grew, it constricted her neck more and more, becoming life threatening. We are very glad that Tigger came to Spay Day 2009. Her family was very grateful and we are sure Tigger is feeling much better now! We also have many pictures of our Spay Day event if you would like me to send those.

Description: Georgia Rescue and Rehabilitation will sponsor a contest "Guess the Breed"on our web site and advertised in our local newspaper. We will have a DNA test completed on one of our mixed breed rescues. Determining the breed is somewhat difficult and a guessing game at times. Our choice will be one of our dogs that we are even unsure of its dominant breed. The one submission in our contest that comes closest to naming the breed will win a spay or neuter. The moral of the story and our promotion, "Any dog can mate with another...most breedings and litters are unintentional because they are not spayed or neutered". GRR has been in operation less than a year and our funding is limited. We are not able to offer the opportunity to have as many companion animals spayed or neutered as some other rescues and agencies. Our part is small but the message we hope to invoke is large...spay and neuter to reduce the unwanted and homeless pet population.
Total Animals: 2 Was a resolution issued? No
End of Event details: We sponsored a contest with the winner closest to naming the breed winning a free spay/neuter for their pet. A DNA test performed on a mixed breed foster dog determined there was no definitive parentage or grandparent parentage. Three breeds were identifiable somewhere in the DNA. Since no entries in the contest were even remotely close to the DNA determination we pulled a winner from a hat! The winner's companion animal will receive a voucher for a free spay/neuter provided by our local animal control. A photo of the winners will be submitted to the local paper to encourage spay/neutering.

Additionally, we held a Neuter-a-Tom Event in Des Moines on Saturday February 21, along with a Spay-A-Queen event in Panora, Iowa, on March 3rd. Unfortunately, the weather in Iowa in February is very unpredictable, and is thought to have played a role in the low turn out this year. However, APE has two other Neuter-a-Tom events and two other Spay ?a-Queen events lined up in March. Currently, there are over 80 cats on the reservation list for these four dates. Thus, we hope to have even more cats altered during March 2009.

Description: First Thursday in Boise is a huge event, and this first Thursday will be the largest ever, as it is the day before the opening ceremonies for the World Special Olympics, more people will be in Boise then were at the Salt Lake Winter Olympics. What a great venue to educate the nation and world about the importance of Spay and Neutering. The theme of this first Thursday is wine and chocolate, we will be handing out free flowers to all to compiment the valentine theme along with life saving education. We have also invited the Meridian Animal Shelter to join us with some dogs for adoption, nothing like a lovable dog for your valentine. Cat nip mice and doggone cool chairs will also be for sale to help subsidize folks that cannot afford our in clinic low cost spay and neuter program with local vets for domestic and feral cats of low income individuals and caregivers.

End of Event details: What a great event, we handed out free flowers to compliment the first thursday chocolate and wine theme for valentines day. At first no one wanted a flower- nothing is free these days, there has to be a catch, soon we had them lining up and they listened to our message about the importance of spay and neutering. We asked the Meridian Valley Shelter to bring a dog or two in hopes to get them adopted, they did and there was interest in the dog and exposure for the shelter also. We had folks sign up to volunteer, and even take flyers for friends to take advantage of our low cost spay and neuter program for low income owners and feral caregivers. One never knows how successful an event really is till down the rode, you never know who talks to who, the networking that goes on. But we have seen an increase in volunteer applications and appointments for low cost spay and neuters- so on the surface it was a huge success, and more will just keep coming from the event. Thank you HSUS for the opportunity to celebrate National Spay Day.

End of Event details: This year we used radio advertising to promote this annual event. Radio time was arranged for by a long-time supporter of our work and we got first-rate hourly coverage. We had many more phone calls than usual; a few cancellations, and a large number of rescheduled surgeries for next month's regular low-cost spay day. We will continue to publicize our monthly Sheena-sponsored clinics, and we feel like this year for the first time we got really, really good coverage. Many heard or read about the event; we probably reached the consciousness of 5000+. It was a good event.

End of Event details: The last week of January, we put an article in the 3 local papers about the upcoming special we would offer. In the article, it explained very well the importance of spaying and neutering. Starting in February, $20.00 coupons were put in 2 local papers twice a week and once a week in the other paper. This was each time the papers came out. The coupons were good toward any spay or neuter within our county. All the participant had to do, was clip the coupon from the paper, and mention it when he/she called the vet to make the appointment. An expiration date to use the coupon was set for April 30, 2009 in order to encourage the surgery to be done in a timely manner. The appointment had to be made in February. As of today's date, there were 49 appointments made at our local vet, and 2 at vets in other towns. This makes a total of 50 cat and dog spay or neuters and one rabbit neuter.

End of Event details: We had an overwhelming response to our Spay Day 2009 Event! Our clinic filled our appointment capacity for the month by the second week of February. We had tremendous support from our membership for the Spay Day USA Photo contest. We also had refreshments and goodie bags on February 24th, which were very much appreciated by all who came in. We put out several news releases in the the newspapers of the two states we service (Illinois and Indiana) and also placed 10,000 door hangers in one of our target communities regarding our February spay/neuter specials. Thanks to two county animal controls (Cook and Will County, Illinois), their residents were able to obtain a $40 off surgery voucher for the month of February, and we had a fantastic response to that promotion as well. We loved participating in Spay Day USA 2009 and can't wait to make it even bigger and better for next year!

Description: Spay or Neuter FOR LESS
Surgeries starting at $30

Spay-Neuter Services of Indiana (SNSI) has partnered with 30 local veterinarian clinics to help pet owners get their pets spayed or neutered at deeply discounted rates during the month of February, the traditional month of love.

This annual effort is open to all pet owners regardless of income.

Pets that are spayed or neutered tend to live longer, be healthier, and have fewer behavior problems like spraying, biting and running away.

Pet owners who would like to take advantage of SNSI's reduced surgical fee program must pick up a hot pink certificate at Marion County Libraries, various surrounding libraries, various pet stores, Indy Tails pet magazine, and by request at 317.788.6330, or at SNSI's Web site www.SpayNeuterServices.org

Participating vets, which are located throughout Central Indiana, are listed on the reduced fee certificate. Veterinarian calendars fill up fast, so please call as soon as possible.

We will be providing 400--$20 off coupons for anyone in the East Central Indiana area to use towards having their pet altered. All of the vets in the Muncie/Delaware County area honor these coupons along with many vets in surrounding counties (Randolph, Blackford, Jay, Henry, Madison, etc). If a person is from an area further away, we are happy to discuss the program with any vet and are more than happy to have them join our family of vets who accept the coupons. We have budgeted $8000 to cover these coupons. We are dedicating our February efforts to Spay Day USA but our coupons will be available before the end of January, 2009 and will be valid through the end of November, 2009.

End of Event details: We partnered with an African American Church that is located in a low income area of town for our Spay Day event. We took our 34 foot veterinary mobile clinic (S.P.O.T.)to his church. The pastor "The Bishop" did a tremendous job helping us promote the event through word of mounth and on his radio show that airs Monday -Friday. This is the first time we have been able to team up with residents and key people in this area for a project like this. We were able to alter 18 animals. That may not sound like many, but we are definitely laying the groundwork to do many more projects in this area that only has one small veterinary clinic. The lines of communication are open and people are very receptive to learning about responsible pet care and the imnportance of spaying and neutering.

This program had been provided through various grant we were able to get for the last three years. This year I was given $50,000 in our budget for the program, by our Parish Government. All I needed to do was show them I could make it work, and there was truly a need for this program. Three years of begging for grants and it has really paid off. 60 animals were spayed or neutered in our community 44 of them were homeless animals from our shelter.

Description: In Feb, PAWS of N.E. Louisiana will hold a Spay Day for pets of low income families. We hope to spay/neuter 25-50 pets at this event. 2 local Vets & their staff are kind enough to donate their time, expertise & clinic to help the pets of our community. Our s/n program is primarily funded by donations. Recipients are only asked to donate whatever they can afford, if anything, towards surgeries. PAWS is an all volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit org founded 5/03. Our mission is to reduce & aid the population of unwanted & lost companion animals in our community & to support & encourage the positive interaction between pets & people. We do not have a shelter or ofc, but we strive to rid our area of pet overpopulation through s/n for low income families, rescue/foster/transport/adoption, humane ed, pet therapy, free pet ID tags. We promote adoption at a local parish animal shelter. Here in the south, we're faced with ignorance & indifference about pet overpopulation so we fight an uphill battle.

Of course, we always need donations to fund the surgeries that will take place at Spay Day, but also for our year round program which also funds s/n surgeries for the pets of low income families. Donations of collars, leashes, plastic carriers, wire training crates, towels, blankets, etc are welcomed! Many low income families do not have and cannot afford proper carriers to transport their pets back and forth to Spay Day, so donated carriers would be of great assistance.

Although we can only focus on February for Spay Day benefits, it is important to mention that we had over 145 responses to our advertising of the low-cost s/n clinics, booking into May now and very likely to be extended (we only have 91 slots from Feb. 10 thru May 13th) and just by offering the program we provided the public with education on alternative ways to get their pets fixed at a lower cost than they would pay at most vet services. Please note that the numbers for February are low only because we were given a limited number of available slots at Faxon. It is certainly not due to lack of response. Had we been given more slots on the dates we booked, or more dates available that we could have booked, we would have absolutely filled them. There are many more slots per date in March thru April which are filled but they technically cannot be included because they fall past the Spay Day time period.

End of Event details: On Saturday, February 14, 2009, Charles River Alleycats, Inc. -- in collaboration with the City of Somerville/Animal Control -- hosted a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in support of Spay Day USA 2009. On-site at that event, a total of 8 female and 17 male cats were spayed and neutered, respectively. Overflow included one female and four male cats who were spay/neutered immediately following. To make this effort more attractive to pet owners, Charles River Alleycats promoted a Valentine's Day special that offered spay/neuter surgery for a donation of $65 -- toward a total cost per cat of $75. Charles River Alleycats was able to raise $65 worth of funding for 28 of 30 cats signed up for this Valentine's Day promotion. Accordingly, Charles River Alleycats subsized: Mobile van set-up/admin = $200 $10 subsidy x 30 cats = $300 $65 x 2 cats = $130 In total, Charles River Allycats contributed $630 toward an effort that led to the sterilization of 30 owned felines.

End of Event details: This is my third year participating in spay/day 2009. So with my posters and bookmarks in my tote I went to all the locals stores, vets, town offices and put up posters. I also left book marks on the counters to take. Everyone was really happy to help out and spread the word. I made a special web page on my site and it had a lot of hits. Also on the web site I did three separate articles weighing the benefits of spay/neuter for our pets. I just posted on my site the 3rd newsletter for the final installment on spay/neuter and animal rescue. The local news paper printed my letters that I submitted to them. I only wished that we had better weather as it was below 0 most of the time here in Maine or we were having snow. This made it a little hard for people to get out. My suggestion is to have spay day closer to the spring, maybe in May when it's easier to get out and really network. I really feel it was a positive experience for all and I was so glad to be part of such an important day. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to participate. Pat and the critters

End of Event details: We used the entire month to promote 2009 Spay Day, with news releases, our website and promoting the Spay Day Photo contest. Though 2500 people is a small estimate, we let people know in at least five different Northern Michigan rural counties about the importance of getting their companion animals spay and neutered through our news releases, generating many calls for help, which we provided as Michigan--especially Northern Michigan --has the highest unemployment rate in the nation.
