A Happy Ending

I am finally reunited with my missing cat, Guido, thanks to Pets 911 and a wonderful lady who rescued him.  I had only moved my pets down to Phoenix in mid-July 2009, and I guess the change from our home in Northern California was too much for my 7 year-old cat, Guido.  He had never lived anywhere else from the age of 7 weeks, and he was used to visiting the neighbors who had ducks, chickens and rabbits roaming free in their yard. Sometime in the evening of July 25th, Guido slipped out the patio door with my dogs.  I began a frantic search for him, visiting shelters, posting flyers, walking the neighborhood calling his name.  He had always come when called.

Weeks went by.  I continued to haunt the shelters, re-posting my flyers, and checking the internet for found cats.  On Monday, I checked Pets911.com as usual.  I was no longer checking every day, and I always used the broad search for found male cats.  I was unsuccessful, but for some unknown reason, I decided to remove the gender designation from my search.  I was thrilled and excited to find my cat listed only about a mile and a half from my home.  Guido was listed as a female, but the picture was him, all right, and the information the rescuer included referenced his microchip issued in my former hometown!  I called the contact number immediately, and said, “I think you might have my cat!”

A very sweet lady was as excited as I was.  Apparently, this friendly, lost cat had chosen her garage to seek shelter.  She took him to her vet (coincidentally, my vet, too, now) to make sure he had no communicable diseases to pass on to her own cats.  Fortunately, he didn’t and she kept him in her home while looking for his owner.

You have no idea how this has restored my faith.  This wonderful, kind stranger, was brought to tears by the thought that the cat she was calling Duchess was finally going home.  We have no idea how he survived for the 5 weeks he was missing before he wondered into the garage, but I know he was in gentle hands from that day on.

I am happy to report that Guido is happy to be home, and has a big new kitty condo to perch on and look out the window into the backyard.

Thanks again to all that helped.
