The First Annual BOWL-A-RAMA for Animal Rescue

In addition to packing the AMF Shea Village Lanes to capacity with hundreds of animal lovers on Saturday, August 2, the event far exceeded its original fundraising goal by bringing in over $82,000 in total donations. All net proceeds benefit Pets 911 Auxiliary and its animal welfare partners throughout Maricopa County.

This first-of-its-kind-in-Phoenix animal focused event raised funds in a very unique way. Over 30 different local animal welfare and rescue organizations formed teams and solicited pledges for their pinfall to help them continue to spare gutter dogs, alley cats, and other castaway critters. A number of local businesses and individuals stepped foward to financially sponsor the event as Big Dogs, Cool Cats and Honey Bunnies.

In addition to raising much needed funds, the event bought much needed visibility to more than 30 of the county's many animal advocacy groups, providing a vehicle for them to inform the public about their existence, what they do, and why they do it. Many high profile, animal-loving, local celebrities participated in the BOWL-A-RAMA, including Sheriff Joe Arpaio who came by to support the event and applaud the efforts of all that work so tirelessly to help animals throughout Maricopa.

The participating groups quickly responded with glowing praise and thanks:

"Thank you so much… for putting on this wonderful event! We managed to raise almost $2,700… we can make such a difference with these funds!"

Arizona Beagle Rescue

"Thank you for such a wonderful opportunity to 'get away' from the daily physical and mental efforts of doing rescue and have FUN while benefiting our rescue"

Aussielads Aussie Rescue

"Not only did we have a great time, but we were able to make contacts and let people know we're out there!"

Dalmatian Rescue of Arizona

"Our thanks to Eileen Proctor for creating the idea and chairing the event, and to the entire Bowl-A-Rama Committee for their hard work."

Rescue A Golden of AZ

"What an amazing turnout and show of support for rescue. (We were) proud to be a part of this event and look forward to next year!"

Arizona Pug Adoption and Rescue Network

"Bowl-A-Rama was absolutely fabulous. Our group had fun, made some new friends for our rescue, and raised more money than we have with any other single fundraiser! Congratulations on a job well done!"

Valley of the Sun Boston Terrier Club

"The Bowl-A-Rama was a huge success! Final totals are not in yet but it looks like we raised over $3000!! We had a great time and are already thinking up ways to raise more (money) next year!"

Arizona Animal Welfare League

"(We) thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Bowl-A-Rama. You all did such a wonderful job coordinating this event and giving rescue groups an opportunity to raise much needed funds. We are definitely looking forward to next year's Bowl-A-Rama. Sign us up."

Boxer Luv Rescue

But the work does not end here.

"Despite the incredible amount of money and awareness that we just raised through the Bowl-A-Rama, because there are so many animals in need, there will always be a need for events such as this", explains event organizer Eileen Proctor.

That is why Pets 911 Auxiliary exists… to assist the over 70 different animal welfare groups throughout Maricopa County in their individual efforts to serve the animal population within the community. Their focus is on fundraising events, increased media exposure, and joint adoption functions involving the business community. Their next Adopt-A-Thon, in association with Petsmart on September 12-14, will offer the opportunity for prospective pet parents to meet a wide variety of dogs, cat, bunnies and even guinea pigs that are looking for new, forever homes.

PETS 911 ADOPTATHON AT THE FRANCISCAN RENEWAL CENTER March 2003

Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, PETS 911 has worked very closely with the groups of Maricopa County, Arizona since our inception in 1999. After all, Maricopa County is our own backyard. For the past four years, all of the groups in this community have taken part in numerous PETS 911 adoption days at local grocery stores, churches, parks, PETsMARTs and even car dealerships. The most successful to date has been our annual Franciscan Renewal Adoption Day. On March 30, the 42 organizations that participated in the 4th Annual Adoption Event, adopted out over 100 animals in six short hours - 55 four-legged friends went home that day and another 60 applications were pending at the end of the day!

This amazing event, lined with beautiful spring weather, included food, fun and a huge bell! Every time a pet was adopted, the new guardian(s) and their companion would step to the middle of the adoption arena and ring the bell. Needless to say, everyone would clap and cheer. The best part was that bell rang constantly! It was pure enjoyment! You can only imagine the bliss all of us experienced watching so many pets go home with wonderful families in such a short while.

The PETS 911 Adoption Events the past four years have been coordinated by a very special group of ladies known as the PETS 911 Auxiliary (pictured below). They volunteer their time to make a difference for all the shelters and rescues in the Phoenix area. PETS 911 would like to thank these women for all they do, they are a shining example of how everyone can make a difference.

If you would like more information on how you, too, can coordinate your very own PETS 911 Adoptathon, just email us at info@pets911.com.
