"Ode To Those Who Stand On Four"
Stories in verse by Bari Mears
With Illustrations by Susan Barken

A book of poems surely to delight the animal lover, "Ode" is a tribute to the wonderful beings who stand on "Four", making our world a better place.

This collection of original poems was inspired by the love, joy and sadness, known by those who work closely with the animals rescuing and protecting them. The poems will touch you, bringing both smiles and tears, and will surely become a treasured part of your library.

Bari Mears is the Founder and President of the PETS 911 Auxiliary, working with over 60 active humane partners in Arizona by providing adoption, fundraising and educational opportunities.

Bari has authored 3 previous books, all donating funds to animal causes. Like the books before it, Ode To Those Who Stand On Four will be available to any humane group wishing to purchase copies at a discounted price for resale. Making it yet another fundraiser for the animals.

Here's an excerpt from the book:

Ode To Those Who Stand on Four
To those who set such a fine example

The Dachshund loves the Mastiff.
Welsh Corgi loves the "Chi."
Jack Russell plays with everyone,
With such high energy!

The Tabby cat walks softly.
Then cuddles with the Lab,
What a sight they are to see...
This pair of "Lab and Tab!"

The black ones love the white ones.
The big ones love the small.
It matters not the color
Nor the size or shape, at all.
The purebreds love the mixes.
The healthy nurse the weak.
Avery Frenchy poodle
Is attracted to a "Peke!"

A stately German Shepherd
Sees a svelt Italian Grey.
A mix and match of faces
Yes, variety's okay!

The gentle English Sheepdog
Struts beside the Irish Setter.
The relationship between these two
Could not possibly be better.

The lovely Russian Wolfhound
Has been keeping company
With a little Chinese Crested
She considers "family!"

The Pitbull girl loves everyone…
She plays the role of "Mother."
She pals around a "Golden" boy
For her, there is no other.

The Arab stallion swiftly runs
Beside the "Western" mare.
The Thoroughbred and Mustang
Join the race without a care.

What a concept we might learn from them…
"Those who stand on four,"
We're each unique, yet all the same
When stripped of our décor.

Let's celebrate our differences
Embrace them with your mind.
We might create a better world
With love for all Mankind.

The crown's adorned with precious jewels
Many facets, each that glisten.
May we replace the "hate" with "tolerance"
If we're wise enough to listen!
