The PETS 911 Auxiliary
The PETS 911 Auxiliary brings together the many animal welfare organizations throughout Maricopa County in an interactive manner, providing an opportunity for all to work together for the greater benefit of the animals. The Auxiliary was formed in 1999, under the umbrella of PETS 911 nationwide, by Bari Mears. Since many of the local welfare groups were already listed on the PETS 911 Website, it made sense to form a working partnership to encourage interaction amongst them. Over the last six years, the continuing efforts of the Auxiliary have been rewarded, and a new spirit of cooperation has emerged within the animal welfare community. The Auxiliary focuses on providing venues for large joint adoption functions. These well attended events create an ideal opportunity for the animal welfare groups to gain exposure for their organizations and the services they provide, while offering the animals needing to be re-homed a new chance to be seen. These venues also enable the groups the chance to educate the unknowing public about key issues, such as the need to spay and neuter pets as a means of reducing pet euthanasia.
The Auxiliary has many exciting major fundraising projects in the works, benefiting the animal community. At the close of 2003, the Auxiliary proudly announced the newly established Emergency Medical Fund (EMF), to provide financial aid to non-profit animal welfare groups needing assistance with special medical costs. Monies raised from our innovative programs, as “Bowlarama” and the “Simply Delicious” Cookbook, will fund this important and “first of its kind” program.
